Asia-Pacific Mediation Forum | APMF Peace Prize
Introduction
of APMF
The idea for the Asia-Pacific Mediation Forum (APMF) was first mooted in 2001 by Dale Bagshaw, Director of the Centre for Peace, Conflict & Mediation at the University of South Australia, with support and encouragement from the World Mediation Forum Steering Committee.
The membership to the APMF currently represents the following countries in the Asia Pacific Region: Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia and North America.
The main objective of the APMF is to facilitate the exchange and development of knowledge, values and skills of mediation in any form including inter-cultural, interpersonal, inter-institutional and international, within and between the diverse countries and cultures in the Asia Pacific Region. To fulfill this objective, conferences will be held in the Asia Pacific region every two years, with a different country taking responsibility for hosting the conference.
The Inaugural conference was held in 2001 at the University of South Australia, Adelaide. Subsequently, the 2nd conference was held in Singapore in 2003 and the 3rd in Fiji Islands in 2006.
The Harun M. Hashim Law Centre has been successful in its bidding to host and organise the APMF Conference for 2008.
